KAREN YOUNG
GOLF PHYSIOPHERAPIST

Karen is lead golf physiotherapist for The Scottish Institute of Sport, and therefore co-ordinates and heads up physiotherapy for the national Men’s and Women’s squads. As most golf injuries tend to develop through repetitive loading through golf practice, much of the job is focused on preventing injuries. This involves close liaison with the coach to analyse movement patterns and posture during a golf profile , and then close working with a strength and conditioning coach to ensure the gym programme is individualised to the specific needs of the golfer. There has been a large shift over the last 10 years, and best golf practice involves consideration of the physical as well as the technical aspects of the game. Golf professionals regularly work out in the gym to develop flexibility, strength , power and cardiovascular fitness. This makes the body more resilient to injury and aims to improve consistency and power in the golf swing.
